Senescence and Sexual Aging: Implications for Men and Women
摘要
Senescence is a basic feature of aging, which is outlined by the gradual loss of functional abilities. Cellular senescence is caused by a variety of mechanisms, including damaged mitochondria, oxidative stress, and epigenetic modifications. Senescence also impacts a number of other physiological functions, including reproductive health. The main factor that significantly alters the normal functioning of the reproductive system with age is the variations in hormone levels in both men and women. Male sexual aging is often associated with lower testosterone levels, erectile dysfunction, and decreased libido. Menopause, which is characterized by a decline in estrogen levels, causes changes in women's sexual behavior. During sexual activity, decreased estrogen also contributes to vaginal dryness and pain. Sexual aging deteriorates the physical and psychological health of individuals as these modifications impact emotional health in general. Understanding the biological and psychosocial aspects of sexual aging is essential to developing therapies that promote healthy aging and improve the quality of life for people of both genders. The symptoms of sexual aging are now lessened by medical advancements such as hormone replacement treatment, medications, and counseling. To ensure that older persons have better sexual health, a more thorough approach that considers social and cultural factors is necessary.
