The Dynamics of Middle Powers and the Rise of China

The primary objectives of the rising middle powers are to ensure their rise as soon as possible and to adapt the existing global system and order to their growing interest, which fundamentally contradict those of the established superpower and established middle powers. Acutely aware of this, Chinese political leaderships have adopted the strategy of “concealing China’s ability and biding its time” in the hopes of fulfilling its resurgence at the systemic (global) level on an early date. To this end, China has prioritized economic growth that bolsters its comprehensive prowess, and created partnerships with strategically significant states and states grouping to counterattack the perceived US containment, and to reshape the world order in favor of its rise. China expedites the modernization of its armed forces to confront the US military threat and to protect its rise from being disrupted. Concurrent with its augmentation on “hard” power, China has enhanced its “soft” power by showcasing its “growth model” particularly in the developing countries and its splendid culture across the world.
