Women’s Empowerment Through Psychological Patterns and Behavioral Implications with Cultural Determinants and Indicators
摘要
Empowerment is the control of the individual on the factors that affect their life to make them politically active, economically productive, and independent. Women’s empowerment was first introduced at the International Women’s Conference on Empowerment (1985), which redefined the distribution of social power and control of resources in favor of women. Empowerment of women takes place in social, economic, political, and educational domains, but psychological empowerment often tends to be neglected. A psychologically empowered individual has a different set of core beliefs that play a role in guiding decisions in their day-to-day life. Women who are psychologically empowered have high self-esteem and self-worth, which enables them to withstand any difficult situation in their lives. Psychologically empowered women show an observed change in their attitude, cognition, and behavior, which improves their self-esteem and self-efficacy. Cultural rights play a role in ensuring women’s rights are more widely respected. Securing cultural rights will help in the reconstruction of gender, which requires a shift in perspective from considering culture as an obstacle to women’s human rights to ensuring women’s equal cultural rights. There have been certain governmental schemes for women’s empowerment introduced, such as Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Mahila Udyam Nishi Scheme, and Udyogini Scheme. Hence, women’s empowerment is the need of the hour in society.
