摘要

India has a long history of being a male-dominated society. Under the influence of an egalitarian society worldwide, there has been a shining trend of empowering women in India in almost all domains of life. Women’s empowerment encompasses five key dimensions. Firstly, it involves fostering a strong sense of self-worth and self-esteem. Secondly, it ensures women’s autonomy to make choices and decisions that affect their lives. Thirdly, it provides access to opportunities and resources, including education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Fourthly, it enables women to exercise control over their lives, both within their personal and domestic spheres, as well as in the public domain. Lastly, it empowers women to influence social change, thus shaping a more equitable and just society both nationally and globally to create a brighter future for all. The ability to endure and overcome stress and misfortune is known as resilience in psychology. It can result in one of two things: either a return to a prior level of normal functioning or the emergence of a stronger and more capable person with a “steeling effect” of improved general well-being. As an alternative, resilience can be defined as the capacity to negotiate the availability and use of psychological, sociocultural, and physical resources in ways that are meaningful and culturally appropriate, thereby fostering resilience and promoting general well-being. This capacity can be used to sustain well-being on an individual and collective level. Indian women in particular face immense stressors in various aspects of their lives, from birth to death. They are responsible for breaking free from the suffocating sociocultural norms that constrain them. Fortunately, their spiritual beliefs and supportive family environments can serve as empowering factors in this journey toward liberation. Looking at spirituality and oppressed conditions of Indian women, the resilience and empowerment of Indian women can be enhanced by training in spiritual intelligence and gender sensitivity. Under the auspices of positive psychology, psychologists are now concentrating on the resilience effect and viewing its positive association with spiritual intelligence and gender sensitivity; we believe that enhancing resilience through spiritual intelligence and gender sensitization will be a valuable and fertile way to empower Indian women.
