Heritage buildings bridge the past, present, and future, holding cultural and historical significance. Beyond emotional attachments, they offer untapped potential for addressing contemporary needs with Adaptive Reuse as a powerful tool. This research endeavours to explore the significance of adaptive reuse within historic residences of Lucknow, with a focus on enhancing their functionality. The primary objective encompasses the compilation of successful cases of residential adaptive reuse from different perspectives, and the exploration of different approaches for the development of evaluation parameters to determine the viability of adaptive reuse within Lucknow’s residential contexts. The research methodology involves an in-depth literature review followed by an analysis of alternate strategies and factors impacting adaptive reuse, along with an exploration of Lucknow’s heritage. The study seeks to propose a range of tailored approaches for implementing adaptive reuse in Lucknow’s historic residences, with the goal of not only preserving heritage but also enhancing the city’s urban landscape.
