Analysis of Noise Levels in Cities of Uttarakhand and its Compliance to UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-11

Sustainability is the key of life. As we understand the earth is the only known space suitable for habitat in the whole universe it is our prime responsibility to protect and nourish this beautiful living world in harmony with nature so that present and future generations can live in a healthy and sound environment. Unfortunately, in most of the cases this basic principle of sustainability is being deviated due to rapid urbanization and industrialization. The environmental resources: Air, water and soil being polluted at a faster rate than possible recovery. Noise Pollution is such type of a problem being aggravated due to heavy traffic, industries, and non-compliance in the designated zones. Noise Pollution comes with various adverse auditory and non-auditory effects on living beings which are leading to health issues these days. Uttarakhand is also facing increase in noise pollution level due to migration, tourist activities, heavy traffic flow, congested areas with non-compliance of noise rules. The Ambient noise level is largely being deviated from standards. This is a great concern for cities like Kahsipur, Haridwar and of course Dehradun which is announced as smart city in Uttarakhand. United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 says about sustainable cities and communities. In this context, it very much important to have check and balance in noise level and its compliance to SDG for maintaining a heathy environment. Therefore, this study represents a detailed analyses of Noise level data from various locations of Uttarakhand and their correlation with Noise Pollution rules and SDG 11.
