Solar dryers have attracted many researchers around the world. The significance of solar dryers has been emphasized by various investigations. Many developments have been made in this direction. However, the presence and rate of acceptance of these dryers at the household level are very low. There have been reasons for this such as cost, climate-dependent operation, lower efficiency, etc. But the most significant reasons are the lack of awareness and a sense of responsibility toward achievement of the global goals. This study presents the performance enhancement techniques for solar dryers and their future perspectives in developing a range of cheap, independent, and highly efficient domestic solar dryers. It would urge the researcher community to think about consumer’s viewpoint while designing a new study/product. Some major implications of the same have been discussed to ensure the participation of individuals in combating global hunger, food waste, and loss. The literature shows very few studies on domestic solar dryers. Various performance enhancement techniques for solar dryers have been discussed and some most suitable options are recommended for future developments in domestic solar dryers.
