Computational Thinking Integration by Design-Based Learning Perspective Implementation Example of AI

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is becoming increasingly widespread in educational sciences. In addition to the use of these tools as support in the educational context, it is very important to gain knowledge and skills for the design and development of tools to ensure reliability and effectiveness in the process of using these technologies by pre-service teachers. Although there are many studies on teaching machine learning (ML) processes, which is an application area of AI, to young age groups, there is a limited number of studies on teaching these processes to pre-service teachers. When the realization steps of ML are examined, it is seen that design-based learning (DBL) activities are suitable for teaching these steps to pre-service teachers. In this chapter, an implementation example of AI activities prepared based on DBL perspective for computational thinking (CT) skills was realized. This chapter is organized as follows: developing pre-service teachers’ CT skills in the first section, teaching AI to pre-service teachers in the second section, CT integrated AI-Based activity design with DBL perspective in the third section, methodology of the implementation example in the fourth section, findings and discussion in the fifth section, recommendations for practitioners and researchers in the sixth section, AI-Based activity examples for CT Skills in the seventh section, and limitations and future researches in the eighth section.
