Characteristics of Voltage Distribution on Healthy and Damaged Insulator Strings Under Dry Conditions with Clean and Different Pollution Severities
摘要
With an aim to understand the characteristics of voltage distribution on insulator strings with clean and polluted disc insulators under different string configurations, this work has been carried out. Moreover, the impact on insulator damage on voltage distribution has also been experimented. In general, during normal weather conditions, the percentage voltage distribution at line end of healthy insulator string will be higher, then gradually decrease towards the middle porting of the string and then marginal rise is observed towards the ground end of the string. In total, the percentage voltage distribution shall be about 95–110%. If a portion of few insulator discs in the string is damaged, then, due to various factors, the potential across particular damaged string varies. This variation influences the voltage distribution of string and hence the percentage voltage distribution of damaged insulator string will be different compared to that of healthy insulator string. The same trend will be observed, if the insulator is contaminated. In-service defects (damage) and contaminations on the string are inevitable during service. But the impact of these defects on percentage of voltage distribution is not often reported. Hence, in this work, an attempt is made to study the impact of different pollution severity (SDD) under dry condition on voltage distribution of porcelain disc insulator strings with healthy and damaged disc insulators. Percentage voltage distribution on porcelain disc insulators of various configurations, viz. single suspension, single tension, double suspension, and double tensions are reported.
