A wide variety of etiologies can be responsible for facial paralysis: e.g., idiopathic (Bell’s palsy), traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and congenital. Those with incomplete recovery often have sequelae of facial paralysis of varying degrees, which can be broadly categorized into spastic and flaccid symptoms. Flaccid symptoms are manifested by preexisting weakness in the face, such as weakness in lifting the eyebrows, incomplete eye closure, and limited movement of the mouth. The sequelae of spastic facial palsy include six major symptoms: synkinesis (meaning that unintentional muscular movement of one portion of the face when another portion of the face moves voluntarily [1]), hemifacial muscle tremble, tension in the affected facial, stiff facial expressions, narrowing orbital fissure, and eye opening difficulty. Different patients may come to the doctor with different symptoms as their main complaint, all of which can seriously affect the patient’s quality of life and the patient’s desire for treatment is very urgent.
