It is necessary to consider lateral loads, in addition to the more typical compressive and tensile ones, while designing piles. The pile acts as if it were a transversely loaded beam by responding laterally to the tensile actions that is being given to it, and it distributes the laterally to the soil that is around it results in bending, rotation, or translation of the pile. In present study, an attempt has been made to compare various approaches for estimating lateral capacity of a single pile. These include analytical techniques such as those suggested by IS 2911 Part 1/Sec 2 (Design and Construction of pile Foundations Part 1 Concrete piles; section 2 Bored cast in-situ concrete piles, BIS, 2010 [3]), Reese and Matlock (8th Texas conference on soil mechanics and foundation engineering, special publication No. 29, University of Texas at Austin, 1956 [5]), and Broms Broms (1965), as well as numerical analyses with software such as Repute 2.5, ALP 20.0, and Plaxis V.22. Results obtained from all these approach have been shown as a comparison of the spread of lateral capacity of pile.
