Investigation of Marble Dust Effect on the Mechanical Properties of Concrete: A Critical Review
摘要
Marble waste is produced significantly as a by-product of mining activities worldwide and, therefore causes severe environmental issues. Concrete is the most common and widely used construction material and takes many natural resources. Cement manufacture requires energy and fuel, emitting heat, noise, and pollutants such as CO2, NOx, SO2, and CO. Marble dust particle powder has emerged as a valuable substitute for increasing concrete hardening qualities. The addition of marble dust to concrete can improve its workability and durability. Recent research has shown that marble powder is becoming more and more attractive as a partial cement replacement in concrete. Several studies have evaluated the utility of marble powder as a viable alternative to concrete. This systematic review aims to replace cement with marble dust powder in concrete production partially. Marble dust used in concrete was proposed in different percentages (5, 10, 15, 20% and more) as a partial substitute as a binder. Many studied cements were partially replaced by marble dust and other binding martials such as fly ash, silica fume, etc. In this review, the effect of marble powder is studied on the mechanical properties, such as compressive strength, flexural strength, etc., of the produced concrete at 28 days of curing. Assessing the overall qualities of concrete made using marble waste powder suggested possible solutions for sustainable concrete manufacturing.
