Identification of Causes and Remedial Measures of Distresses in Concrete Pavements of a National Highway
摘要
A section of National Highway in the state of Rajasthan connecting Bar, Bilara and Jodhpur having a total length of 109.84 km was observed to develop cracks at different locations. The road consists of parts of both bituminous as well as concrete pavements with majority of concrete pavements. The study was conducted to identify the probable causes of these cracks, and suggest their rectification and repair methodology. Observations made during the site visit revealed a wide variety of cracks. Visual survey performed over concrete pavement showed plastic shrinkage cracks, transverse cracks, longitudinal cracks along with other distresses including deteriorated transverse construction joints, poor finish and footmarks on the slab surface. Cores were taken at various locations to check the extent of cracks below the pavement surface. Accordingly, repair methodologies were suggested individually for each identified type of distress.
