Data scientists—statisticians in particular—are taught a certain way and, in turn, teach a certain way. The way I refer to includes some standard elements. For instance, a data-generating probability model, a notion of a sample, and an inferential task followed by an inferential procedure. (Here, I use the word inference loosely and include tasks like prediction within its ambit.)
