Conclusion: Penang in the Indian Ocean World
摘要
In the concluding chapter, the identity strategies discussed are summarised and examined within the context of Malaysia’s national heritage narrative. I argue that heritage performance is deeply connected to various historical factors, localities and the contemporary politics of heritage-making. This examination of the tangible and intangible heritage of Peranakan provides insights into both local and global processes of connectivity, as well as the immobility and circulation of people, goods, ingredients, techniques and ideas.
