Legislations relating to the protection of plant varieties, plant genetic resources, and farmers interests are of vital importance for an agrarian country like India, which is rich in its genetic resources, where farmers not only cultivate for livelihood, fulfilling needs for food, feed, fiber, and fodder, but also conserve the landraces over generations practicing diverse types of farming owing to its diverse agro-climates. Strong regulatory systems are also needed to encourage science based technology development in agriculture to meet the dreams of a developed nation—‘Vikasit Bharat’. It is therefore, imperative that the seed industry, custodians of modern agriculture, have a clear understanding of the existing Act and partner in its further evolution through meaningful engagements.

摘要
