A further hurdle faces us before we move on to consider the various linguistics systems that lie behind all language play; that is, to disentangle the various terms that have been applied to the field in popular parlance. So far we have been content with Language Play as a cover-all term, but there are other candidates: Play on Words, Playing with Words, Wordplay and Pun.
