Most language use is about communicating, or about interacting socially. This chapter is about playing with language in order to hide communication, so that two parties can communicate without the intervention of a third party. Two very different endeavours will be investigated: the use of codes to disguise written communication, and the use of slang to facilitate verbal secrecy.
