The National Police Agency’s traffic accident casualty statistics cover accidents involving vehicles, trams, and trains on roads as defined by the Road Traffic Act, which result in death or injury. The number of people who die within 24 h of an accident is counted, and this number is generally referred to as the number of traffic accident fatalities. To capture those who die after 24 h have passed since the accident and to make international comparisons, since 1993, the number of people who die between 24 h and 30 days after the accident has also been counted in addition to the 24-h fatalities. As for injuries, cases requiring treatment for 30 days or more are classified as serious injuries, and those requiring treatment for less than 30 days are classified as minor injuries, and the number of injuries is the total of serious and minor injuries [1]. From a medical perspective, all deaths involving transportation, regardless of the location of the accident or the time after the accident, are considered traffic accident deaths.
