Control Methods for Switched Reluctance Motors

The nonlinear characteristics caused by the double salient structure limit the applications of switched reluctance motors (SRMs). Advanced control techniques have been developed to suppress torque ripples, enhance anti-disturbance ability, expand speed range, and improve efficiency. In this chapter, the benefits and shortcomings of control methods are classified and summarized. Besides, an improved direct torque control is presented.
