Hydrogen Storage Properties of Metal Oxides: A Review

With current exhaustive increase in the consumption of non-replenishable, finite and limited sources of energy across the globe, we need to understand the impact of this global issue in terms of energy, environment and economy. Sustainable resource management, transition to renewable resources, finding out cleaner and greener alternatives can alleviate the effect of depletion of non-renewable sources of energy to a greater extent. Hydrogen has significantly emerged as one of the favourable choices which is highly efficient, safe and is a flexible energy carrier that can aim for a sustainable energy future. Hydrogen storage and its transportation is therefore needed so as to utilize hydrogen as an energy carrier. We need to look forward to various effective storage methods and the materials to make hydrogen a practical energy source. Therefore, the emphasis in the current chapter lies on the discussion of various metal oxides that are amongst the finest potential materials for hydrogen storage with enhanced properties for a widespread and extensive range of applications.
