Over the years, rapid industrialization across the globe and other human activities have discharged a wide variety of chemicals into the water bodies and made them polluted. Ensuring a reliable and uncontaminated water source for both drinking and industrial use has grown increasingly difficult. Electrocatalysis-based techniques are some of the promising technology, which can be used in wastewater treatment. Electrocatalysts enhance the rate of electrochemical reactions taking place at the electrode surface or the solid/liquid interfaces. In this chapter, different electrocatalysis techniques have been demonstrated for wastewater treatment applications. Further, it elucidates the fundamental ideas and mechanisms to comprehend electrochemical reduction/oxidation technologies and their application toward wastewater treatment.
