This chapter provides a recap of the basic principles of classical thermodynamics namely the three laws, the thermodynamic potentials and Maxwell's equations. These principles has been used to examine phase transitions, homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation and crystal growth that find applications in various processing technologies and across disciplines.
