In September 1493 (the sixth year of Hongzhi’s reign), Wang Hua returned to the capital. In October, he wrote a “Petition for the Encouragement of Learning” as a lecturer in the Classics Colloquium. The petition aimed to encourage Emperor Xiaozong to increase his royal visits to the imperial lectern and to prioritize sagely learning and ruling, and it was successful.
