Dynamics of Urban Transformation and Regional Development: A Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Land Use Change in Panipat City
摘要
Panipat, a city in India, has the potential to contribute to successful urban land use planning. It has made great strides, becoming a “growth centre” and eliminating regional differences. The city’s historical significance has played a role in its urbanisation and expansion into its rural hinterlands, providing regional development. The present paper uses spatial analysis techniques to analyse the rise of a historical town, Panipat, from a medium to a class I town. The analysis shows that the city had evolved as a growth centre escalating its spread effects in its rural hinterland. The research proposes a mechanism for a more accurate assessment of urban development and population through time based on varied land uses. The paper analyses how the city has emerged as a growth centre and influenced regional development. Overall, the study of Panipat’s urban growth identification is significant for successful urban land use planning.
