Results

For both types of supermassive stars, metal free stars which explode via the explosive alpha process, and metal enriched stars, which explode via the CNO cycle and rapid proton capture process, we find the existence of large explosion windows and conclude that general relativistic instability supernovae are a general consequence of the existence of supermassive stars. These results run contrary to the results of previous papers which found that these types of explosions were much rarer. We also identify the existence of thermonuclear pulsations, which were previously unknown. Both of these advances are primarily due to the use of the general relativistic stability analysis. Finally, we compare our results to existing James Webb Space Telescope data, particularly NIRSpec observations of GN-z11.
