Enhancing Urban Resilience: Lake Area Metro Transforming Connectivity and Quality of Life
摘要
The Lake Area Metro is a pioneering solution connecting the Lake Zurich region with the bustling city of Zurich, enhancing lakeside communities’ quality of life. Historically, railway networks along the lake's shores fostered connectivity between villages without disrupting the landscape. However, the unregulated urbanisation of the twentieth century led to congestion and pollution. In response, “PLAN HECHT” was conceived, featuring a subterranean subway ring around the lower lake basin. This modern transportation infrastructure operates efficiently, embracing climate-resilient design principles and repurposing former S-Bahn routes into bike trails. Subway stations serve as vibrant hubs, enriching social interaction and commerce while promoting ecological restoration. The Lake Area Metro exemplifies holistic urban resilience, addressing transportation, environmental, and socio-economic dimensions, creating vibrant, liveable communities. The chapter will explore the project's rationale and ground-breaking concepts developed by students from ETH Zurich.
