Therapeutic Indications of EBUS

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) is primarily recognized for its diagnostic applications, but its therapeutic potential has attracted attention in recent years. This chapter explores the evolving role of EBUS in therapeutic interventions, detailing its indications, techniques, and clinical impact. This chapter take into consideration various reviews and studies which are evidence based supporting therapeutic EBUS as well as clinical trials to substantiate the benefits and limitations of the procedure. While EBUS has been employed in the diagnosis and assessment of mediastinal lymph nodes and bronchogenic cysts, limited literature is present on therapeutic implications of EBUS. There are few published articles regarding therapeutic use of EBUS in pericardial effusion, and thyroid gland lesions as non-malignant causes where EBUS had been of great use [1]. In malignant lesion EBUS has been of therapeutic use in form of laser resection, argon plasma coagulation, electrosurgery, cryotherapy, brachytherapy, photodynamic therapy, and stenting for intra luminal lesions to relieve symptoms and administer treatment.
