Guidelines for EBUS

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) has become an important tool in the diagnosis and management of thoracic diseases, requiring standardized guidelines to ensure consistent, safe, and effective practice. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the current evidence-based guidelines for the performance, interpretation, and clinical integration of EBUS. The chapter begins by reviewing key international and regional guidelines from professional societies, such as the American Thoracic Society (ATS), European Respiratory Society (ERS), Chest Society, British Thoracic Society (BTS) and Indian Chest Society (ICS). These guidelines address various aspects of EBUS, including indications, contraindications, procedural techniques. Enumerating the important aspect of the established guidelines and discussing future directions, this chapter provides a practical resource for clinicians, so that EBUS is performed in accordance with the highest standards of care to improve patient outcomes. The Chest guideline and Expert panel report in 2016 gave the following evidence based graded recommendation for the technicality of EBUS.Studies and research are still ongoing to develop robust evidence to provide guidelines for the clinician which needs to be followed while performing EBUS.
