Alternative Medicine in the UAE
摘要
Alternative medicine in the United Arab Emirates has gone through several historical stages, as it moved in the past from traditional medicine fraught with paganism and heresy, which is mostly inherited from the medical heritage of neighboring peoples, to traditional Islamic medicine, whose approach is the Prophet’s guidance. Passaging of time, this medicine was intertwined with other human experiences, and with this rich medical balance, the Emiratis, like others, have professionalized the profession of alternative medicine and some health practices that contributed significantly to the treatment of many diseases that were prevalent at the time. According to the problems of this study, we seek to understand the characteristics of alternative medicine. And how did the medical and health life develop in the Emirati society? What are the most important manifestations and advantages of this medical and health culture, as well as methods of herbal medicine and folk medical practices inherited in the Emirati environment? Let us conclude our study by examining the feasibility of paying attention to folk medicine and considering whether it currently has an integral role in contemporary medical life in the United Arab Emirates. Our goal in this is to benefit from the theoretical and practical contribution of the first Emiratis in the fields of medication, medical industry, and health habits, as well as to invest in this healthy and preventive heritage, along with a sound behavioral balance for the benefit of our present and our local community. Furthermore, we will explain our conclusion that the popular therapeutic systems followed by contemporary Emirati society seek to preserve public and private health by following well-studied health and preventive patterns, which allow the dissemination of conscious human relations and positive health behaviors.
