Utility of MXenes for Catalysis, Electrocatalysis, and Fuel Cells
摘要
MXenes, a family of transition metal carbides or carbonitride that are two-dimensional, have garnered significant interest for their numerous usages in catalysis, electrocatalysis, and fuel cells. There is a detailed overview as regards some of the recent advances in utilizing MXenes in catalysis for various chemical transformations, such as oxygen reduction and evolution of hydrogen. The unique electronic properties, high surface area, and tunable surface chemistry of MXenes make them remarkable prospects for catalytic applications. Moreover, their excellent conductivity and electrochemical stability enable efficient electrocatalysis in various devices used in the storage and conversion of energy. Furthermore, MXenes demonstrate remarkable performance as catalyst supports and electrodes in fuel cells, enhancing reaction kinetics and durability. This chapter highlights the multifaceted utility of MXenes in advancing catalytic processes, electrochemical reactions, and fuel cell technologies, underscoring their potential for addressing critical challenges in energy conversion and environmental sustainability.
