Malaysia is the world’s largest consumer of the fish market, where the fish ingesting rate is at least 56.5 kg per person per year. As a result, the fish industry has been identified as the strategic sector to raise domestic food production and supply. However, climate change has a great impact on marine fish landings, where water quality has exaggerated with several physicochemical parameters. In this research, we have considered the marine fish landing statistical data of Port Klang, Selangor, Malaysia for the period 2008 until 2017. These data have been collected from the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE) and the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF). We observed the correlation among different water quality parameters and fish landing using Pearson Correlation Index (PCI). The result shows that a high negative correlation has been observed between average precipitation and average sea surface temperature with r = −0.805, which resembles a strong inverse correlation. In addition, conductivity and salinity have a very high negative correlation with r = −0.942 and r = −0.926, respectively against the turbidity of water. On the other hand, a very high positive correlation between conductivity and salinity has been detected with r = 0.977. Besides, using the linear regression analysis pH level and average sea surface temperature have been identified as the most important features of this research. Therefore, this research would be useful as a baseline study on the impact of water quality parameters on marine fish landings in Malaysia and becomes significant for stakeholders and policymakers for managing the fisheries sector.

摘要
