This chapter elaborates on the work of Northumbria University Student’s Union’s Disaster and Development Society (DDS) and its underpinning concept “The Youth Voice”. It sets out the four key elements of the “The Youth Voice” approach and thus the work of the DDS. These are awareness raising and engagement, avenues for dissemination of Disaster and Development/Disaster Risk Reduction thinking through ‘civil society’, a platform for young people to express their views ideas and research, and opportunities to develop employable skills and network. The chapter situates The Youth Voice work within the UK context. It sets out why the DDSs work to fill the gaps in the UK’s education system relating to the social and human aspects of climate change and disasters and theories of these. It concludes by arguing that The Youth Voice project facilitates long-term change in the way young people are educated about and involved in the tasks of addressing climate change and achieving disaster risk reduction.
