A Cervical Spine Motion Range Detection System Using MwCNTs-PDMS Based Sensor

This paper deals with the design and application of a Polydimethlysiloxane (PDMS) and Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes (MwCNT) flexible sensor. A flexible sensor can be prepared using numerous techniques, for example, encapsulation of flexible base over dried out disperse layer. A sensor with good sensitivity to physical stress was shaped out. The surface topography and composition were analyzed using SEM, and the crystallinity, polymorphy, and molecular interactions were studied through Raman spectroscopy. This paper explores the use of the sensor so formed in biomedical applications. The sensor was deployed on the cervical spine region to study motions of the spine and determine a bracket for normal motion range. The study involved testing of the sensor on a group of healthy individuals for high reliability while determining the range.
