Today’s world highly depends on the web pages, applications, internet in their day-to-day life. To better understand and meet the demands of web-based applications, web usage mining employs data mining approaches to identify usage patterns from web data. Preprocessing, pattern discovery, and pattern analysis are the three stages of web usage mining. This article provides a thorough explanation of pattern and prediction analysis based on web usage mining. The academic and industrial sectors have shown a significant increase in interest in web usage mining due to its potential for applications. This paper offers a thorough taxonomy of the work in this field, including research initiatives and current web usage patterns. A recent review of the work that has previously performed is also presented, considering various data mining methodologies including techniques for classification, regression analysis, and clustering. The limitations of web usage are then discussed and concluded.
