Introduction

This is an introductory chapter which provides contextual information on Tajik labor migration and situates the main research areas. The chapter outlines specificities of gender construction and family relations in the context of Tajik labor migration and explains the book’s rationale and research questions. It presents the theoretical framework of the monograph and provides an overview of the concepts applied in the analysis of Tajik men’s gender practices in the transnational context. The methodology of this research is also shortly outlined in this chapter.
