High-Tech as an Accelerator for the Future Version of PSM: Innovative AI and Metaverse Experiences in Public Media
摘要
The traditional role of the public service media (PSM) is unwavering and non-negotiable, with the main purpose of these agents being to transmit quality information to citizens that inspires a democratic discourse and the construction of critical thinking that enriches different cultures. However, the appearance and behaviour of these actors is undergoing changes due to the possibilities and evolutionary resources linked to the development of new technologies and systems, led at this specific stage by artificial intelligence, algorithms and all their variants. These systems optimise functions and tasks, reduce execution times and mimic routine behaviour without providing specific value for journalists so that they can focus on generating qualitative added value. The limitations and ethical, labour, management and privacy risks associated with these technologies are added to the balance to balance a position that is still favourable and encouraging, but which invites caution and a progressive approach to these systems. This study explores the opportunities offered by cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence or the metaverse to renew the current version of the PSM, specifying the current uses and experiences of the benchmark corporations in the European context, as well as their prospects for future use. To this end, we review recent reports and studies and hold interviews with those responsible for technology and strategy in these media.
