Soil health restoration includes physical, chemical, biological, and ecological restoration. Most management strategies and approaches are interactive and mutually inclusive. Management strategies for physical restoration include soil organic matter management, reducing erosion using conservation practices, improve soil structure and aeration, and restore soil microbial communities. Integrated nutrient management, amendments for ameliorating acidity (liming, phytoremediation, organic matter), sodicity (gypsum, S, organic matter, phytoremediation, microbiome-remediation), leaching of excess salts, and appropriate cropping systems are used for chemical restoration. Biological restoration includes enhanced biomass C inputs, conservation and regenerative agriculture, and faunal and microbial habitat restoration.
