Assessment and Evaluation of Urban Landscape Dynamics: A Case Study of Jammu City
摘要
“Urbanization is a global issue, but in developing nations, the rate of urbanization is extremely rapid. Rapid urbanization has required logical planning and development of urban areas, as the growing population demands the rapid expansion of urban centers. Jammu, as one of the capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir, has seen rapid urbanization over the last three decades This study aims to detect, analyse, and provide a spatial-temporal analysis of Jammu City from 1990 to 2020; an assessment of land transformation during different time periods; and land suitability for future urban growth using maps that have been generated through geospatial techniques (GIS and Remote Sensing). Therefore, an attempt has been made to analyse the urban built-up changes between (1990–2020) using maps generated using various software, to assist the state government, policymakers, and urban planners to have effective and efficient planning of the urban areas to formulate better future plans for the urban growth of the city. This study is based on secondary data; the area of study is Jammu City in Jammu and Kashmir (UT). The data required for the present study comprises satellite images, census data, and a detailed ward map of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. For 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020, LANDSAT TM data were used to map the extent of sprawl, while a ward boundary map was used in the integration analysis to obtain administrative ward-level data.”
