Microspherophakia

摘要

Microspherophakia is a condition of alteration in the crystalline lens’ shape resulting in many complications. Management of this globular lens leading to high myopia and angle closure glaucoma are the most important challenges dealing with this entity. This case report is aimed at presenting a novel way to manage this disease entity. Two short-statured sisters with microspherophakia were treated with surgical peripheral buttonhole iridectomies in their early childhood at about 4–5 years of age despite which synechial closure was found in both with uncontrolled intraocular pressure. Phaco-aspiration and posterior chamber intraocular lens with trabeculectomy achieved success in these cases. The patients have been on long follow-up (more than 10 years) in the same hospital, and vision and intraocular pressure control be maintained.
