Opacified Intraocular Lenses: Unclear for Both Patient and Doctor

Intraocular lens (IOL) opacification is being increasingly seen in patients, especially in those with comorbid ocular diseases or surgeries. Diagnosing this is important also as its treatment helps patients regain vision. Each case must be examined, and customized treatment must be offered after due explanation and counseling. At times, the IOL can be explanted and the patient visually rehabilitated by a secondary IOL and at times the adage of “do no harm” must be followed. A series of such IOL opacifications diagnosed and treatments attempted has been discussed to throw some light on this unfortunate complication.
