Conclusion

The concluding chapter summarises the main findings of the book on the processes of identity formation under neoliberal imperatives and workers’ attempts to resist it. Additionally, it reflects on workers’ political responses to the shock of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reflecting on the main arguments made throughout the book, this chapter underlines the difficulties experienced by online transport drivers in utilising the precarity-based discourse to frame their workplace and political struggles even at a time of acute crisis. These reflections are then used to suggest future research around developments and crises that may accentuate the problems of precarity in work and life in Indonesia and elsewhere.
