Precarious Gig Workers’ Politics: Challenging the Expansion of Precarity in the Gig Economy
摘要
Chapter 7 discusses the difficulties experienced by online transport drivers’ organisations in addressing collective identity problems and challenging the instillment of the entrepreneurial identity. A theme explored in this chapter is worker organisations’ weak bargaining power vis-à-vis firms and the state, as seen in struggles to influence regulations on online transport services. Another theme explored in the chapter is the difficulties faced by workers’ organisations in taking advantage of opportunities from democratic electoral politics, despite often becoming the target of mass mobilisation strategies by competing candidates aiming to generate support and votes in an often vibrant but chaotic post-authoritarian political landscape.
