Nanotechnology in Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions worldwide. The hallmark pathological features of AD are the accumulation of beta-amyloid protein in the brain. Nanomaterials’ unique physical and chemical properties have led to the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for AD. In this context, nanotechnology-based approaches have been used to design nanocarriers capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, targeting specific brain regions, and delivering drugs with high specificity and efficiency. Additionally, nanosensors can detect biomarkers in the brain, allowing for earlier diagnosis and treatment of AD. Nanotechnology can also be used to develop new imaging techniques to understand AD pathology better, such as using quantum dots as fluorescent probes to visualize beta-amyloid plaques in the brain. Further research is still required to realize nanotechnology’s potential in AD fully; its benefits are promising. Nanotechnology has the potential to revolutionize how AD is diagnosed, treated, and prevented, and continued research in this field could pave the way for breakthroughs in the future. Nanotechnology-based approaches are promising to advance AD’s understanding, diagnosis, and treatment.
