Traditional Therapies for Alzheimer’s Disease
摘要
The most common dementia, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), is multifactorial and has a detrimental impact on overall brain function. The disease is complicated in which the pathogenesis is of cellular and molecular level. Certain factors like oxidative stress, aging, cell senescence, posttranslational modifications of genetic makeup, dysfunctional signaling of the neurotransmitters in the brain, burden of amyloid and tau proteins, and cellular and molecular oxidative stress play an eminent role in the onset of the pathology. Current treatments that are used for the disease concern providing only symptomatic relief whereas there’s no cure for the disease. However, these synthetic drugs do not have the greatest potential to cure the disease. Recent perspectives toward the treatment have changed in not only treating the disease but to eradicate the root cause of the disease. As a result of these critiques, novel therapeutic approaches such as traditional therapies must be encouraged, especially to make a difference from the perspective of drug research. Subsequently, a boundless number of natural resources are accessible in the world, so they can lay the foundation for future scientific innovations. This book chapter focuses on a deep understanding of traditional therapies that can be used as an alternative medicine for AD.
