摘要

One of the hallmark events in a woman’s life, which not only marks the end of her reproductive era but also brings with it a plethora of changes to which she must adapt, is menopause. Menopause has classically been defined as cessation of menstruation for 12 months since the last menstrual period, as a consequence of depletion of ovarian follicular reserve. While among the Caucasian women, the average age of menopause is 51.3 years, Indian women tend to attain menopause earlier than their western contemporaries, at an average of 46.6 years [1]. Thus, ovaries in Indian women tend to age earlier than their Caucasian counterparts, with a 6-year difference in favour of Caucasians [2].
