To achieve the decarbonisation of the transport sector, a mass roll-out of electric vehicles (EVs) is crucial. Transport decarbonisation, however, poses significant pressure on the existing electrical grid to meet the peak demand of charging these electric vehicles. The concept of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) will aid the entire power grid through various applications, including vehicle-to-home (V2H), vehicle-to-building (V2B), vehicle-to-load (V2L), vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V). V2X technology allows electric vehicles to interact with the power grid and other devices, providing flexibility and support to the energy infrastructure. This paper presents a brief review of the benefits and barriers of V2X deployment, as well as the challenges and potential solutions related to human factors in its implementation. In addition, the benefits of V2G to the UK electricity market are discussed. By examining these aspects, this paper aims to provide insights into how V2X can be effectively integrated into the energy and transport sectors to support sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions.
