Diagnosis of Stroke in Vietnam

Making a diagnosis of stroke is only the first stage in offering effective treatment and secondary prevention. Stroke is a syndrome made up of many different pathologies. Understanding basic neuroanatomy is essential for all clinicians treating stroke to be able to effectively assess patients clinically and to understand the results of their investigations. This chapter discusses the controversies about the definition of stroke and TIA and summarises the two main classification systems for stroke. It illustrates stroke subtypes with some brain images and presents the rationale for stroke investigations.
