Pharmacology and Stroke

The number of drugs which a physician needs to be familiar with when managing stroke is fairly small. In Vietnam, there are several drugs in common use that are not used much in Europe and the USA. The evidence for some of the commonly used drugs will be reviewed in this chapter. Much of the information will overlap with information elsewhere in this book. We are not reviewing drugs used to treat complications after stroke, such as drugs for spasticity or seizures and we are not covering drugs for diabetes or some other risk factors. A good summary can be found in the review by Bansal et al. 2013 [1].
