The Challenge Based Learning Challenge

This book sets out the framework for Challenge Based Learning, a design-based approach that has been built standing on the shoulders of giants and, it is hoped, provides a different vantage point to view learning design. Design is an important concept here as it asks us to be deliberate about the choices we make, to be critical of what we know does not work and to collaborate in a conversation around best practices. In short, Challenge based learning is a design approach that includes three elements: (a) interactivity. Learners make meaningful choices that have consequences (b) play. Exploration is encouraged and rewarded (c) challenge. Learners can set a personalised difficulty level that engages but does not overwhelm.
